Why choose SHL?
Putting parents at the heart
There is such a wide choice of home educating providers and many parents are not sure which will be best for their family. Some schemes are based around online classes.
Structured Home Learning believes that parents have their child’s best interest at heart, and we want to give them the educational support to help fulfil their child’s potential. Parents have already taught their child so much, and academic learning is just another aspect of life.
Flexible - not dependent on online timetables
Online classes tie your child into being available at specific times of the day. SHL curriculum packs are book based and the weekly schedule we provide shows the programme of study, but leaves delivery to the parents, so you can decide on which days and at which times you want to work. This flexibility helps a family make the most of their time and particular circumstances, whether that involves contributions from other family members, or working around parents’ work commitments.
Crucially, you can proceed at your child’s pace – spending more time on topics your child finds difficult, and moving quickly through topics and concepts which your child grasps easily. You can plan trips to link in with geography and history topics
Relationships - not screen time
The use of screen time can be quite distancing. The SHL material helps parents work closely with their child, reading through the session together, discussing the exercises and then leaving the child to record independently. This close relationship is very important in helping a child access their learning. You don’t have to work with your child for the whole session. Reading through the material should only take 10-15 minutes, but it will reassure you that your child has grasped the concept. This time together helps you immediately monitor your child’s progress and revise work if it is needed.
You can see the big picture
SHL curriculum packs are delivered complete for the whole year ahead. You can see the structure of the programme of study with its cross-references to the National Curriculum descriptors. You can build an outline picture of your child’s learning for the whole year to fit in with your family plans, safe in the knowledge that everything will be covered in all subjects.
Empowering parents
Many home educators worry that they do not have the specialist knowledge they need to teach their child properly. The books SHL provide, published by top educational publishers, contain all the information needed to complete the activities. Your general knowledge and comprehension skills will be enough to help your child access the material. We can also offer teacher guides as an extra resource if you want a quick way to mark work.
At a reasonable price - £449 inclusive of all subjects for a year
Other home education providers are much more expensive than SHL curriculum packs. Our most expensive complete curriculum packs for Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) cost £569 for a whole year of English, Maths, Science, History and Geography.
At Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) our Complete Curriculum Packs cost £449, and at Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) our complete packs cost £499, for a whole year’s work in English, Maths, Science, History, Geography and Art.
We offer a comprehensive and thorough education based on the National Curriculum, recognising the central importance the parent-child relationship plays in helping your child reach their full potential. SHL curriculum packs are self-contained and inclusive. You have everything you need to complete a year’s work with your child. You will be giving your child your attention and through that relationship your child will be able to learn most effectively.
So, if you want a reasonably priced, comprehensive, inclusive and flexible home education programme for your child then Structured Home Learning is the ideal choice. We take away all the worry of planning and choosing the best resources, leaving you free to spend valuable time with your child on their educational journey.
